The Ballad of Pew Pew Kitty 1 In the alley beyond the last streetlight there lived a kitten with eyes like saucers of milk and a heart of unlicensed thunder. 2 The fire came to his block, as fire does, and lightning cracked the sky above it. 3 But the kitten did not run. He stood up on soft hind legs, and the thing he held gleamed darkly in the light of the burning. 4 "Pew pew," he said, quietly, the way prophets speak. 5 No shot was fired, and none was needed. The look on his face had already ended the argument. 6 The flames withdrew, muttering. The alley went quiet. And the elders wrote it down for the generations: 7 Beware the one who is both adorable and done with your nonsense, for he is the true deterrent.
